This is the wind up day for our fishing competition we are not going fishing today so it was a slow and easy start. Liza went to the shop and bought us some fresh Danish for breakfast, afterwards her and Jackie buggered off down around the shops while Merv and I went and Fueled the truck ready for leaving the following morning.
When the girls returned we had lunch then they headed down to little lagoon to try to catch a whiting or maybe have a swim, none of us had been there before so wasn't quite sure what it was like, Liza had the tiniest lure I have ever seen she wanted to try.
We left approx an hour after them and when we found them they had crossed dunes on a 4wd track and was busy fishing.
The lagoon was very clear but shallow for a long way out and we had been told the aquarium in town gets their stonefish from there, so it was definitely no swimming.
We walked approx 1/3 of the way around saw a lot of small fish, Liza was happy she caught a small whiting with her little lure, of course it was put back.
As we were leaving Liza said she would follow us in case she got bogged, which she did in next to no time. Merv reversed the truck up, they put the snatch strap on and after a couple of pulls she was out and Merv pulled her up till the sand was no longer deep, I am just peeved I didn't think to grab the camera and take a pic of her head down bum up digging under the car to attach the strap.
Back to top camp to get ready for the nights entertainment, we had dinner and drinks in the marquee with a good surprise there was surveys put un the table and if you filled one out, took it to the bar you were given a free drink, I took a liking to the alcoholic ginger beer.
When the prize giving started it was surprising the amount of categories there were and some of the nice fish people caught, including crabs, whiting, flathead, bream all sorts right up to cod and Spanish mackerel.
I won the biggest pink snapper with 6.96kg second was 6.93 very close, but the kept calli g me pink snapper legend because I also weighed in a 6.35kg.
Covid affected the competition last year it was cancelled this year there wasn't as many big prizes like overhead fishing rods, which I didn't mind as I have one and never use it, instead I got a really good catch bag and $100 cash, I also won Fisher of the day for Wednesday for weighing in a flounder, this prize was a $50 gift card for celebration liquor.
When the prize giving finished a auction started to raise money for the community, it was lots of different thinks donated by lots of businesses.
The auctioneer was a real comedian and had us in fits of laughter, he also knew how to get people to bid, the crowd were wonderful, there was a men's shirt that had emu draught cans printed all over it, that shirt went for $300, I bought Merv a rugby top which had swan beer brand on it, a picnic bag and another little odds and sods pack, I spent most of the $100 prize but I thought they gave it to me I wanted to put back to the community and we were having heaps of fun. Liza bought quite a lot a voucher for the caravan park as she is coming up again next year, a bundle for Ranni, a wild turkey man bag for Phil on the bike and a selection of other things. Jackie bought a cheese platter with chopper.
Just as the auction finished the fireworks started so hundreds of heads were pointed skyward, then the live band started but I was getting a bit weary by this time so headed back to camp for a coffee, it was easy to hear the music which was some of the best live I have heard in a long time.
The girls followed us up but after coffee we went to bed to listen to the music they changed and went back down to the dancing.
