12th July 2021Forty Mile Beach
Another beautiful day today, we could easily have been on the water but decided to have a break, we have enough fish anyway so we thought to do something different.
After getting ourselves out of bed and organized we drove the 8km track up to the rock platform to try some rock fishing.
When we got there some other families were there fishing, they hadn't had much luck so we tried with lures first, I tried a couple of squid lures while Merv had on lures to try to catch mackerel or trevally. Neither worked so we opted for baits on floats, there was lots of little things chewing the bait but nothing to catch.
The water was crystal clear and tide right in which I was glad of as I had the same reaction to my second covid as the first, only I was out there, I suddenly overheated with perspiration running from me causing me to want to vomit, I took my shirt off soaked it in the ocean and put it back on and sat with my feet in the water, I was tempted to just jump into the water but I don't think I could have climbed back up the rocks, it passes soon enough just left me very tired for the day.
Merv wanted to go for a snorkel a bit further around the ledge, when we drove around there the surge was too much against the rocks making it too dangerous, a bit of a swell had come in.
We went back to camp waited till the tide was out slightly then walked up to an area we had seen that appeared to be free of rocks making it a good swim spot, we took our masks Merv saw a large stingray I only saw weed, but the water was very pleasant.
Merv cooked pizza for dinner which we had outside in the warm evening with a beautiful sunset.
