13th - 15th November 2021 Esperance

When we left Fanny Cove  we had planned to stay a couple of days in Esperance to catch up on family and washing. On the way we stopped at Quagi Beach to check out the beach and their campsites, I preferred the beaches out the national park but their campsites were good, it is an area that is easily accessible to 2wd vehicles. When travelling we saw several large goannas which wouldn't stay still long enough for a good photo. When we arrived in Esperance we booked into the Pink Lake caravan park and I spent the afternoon doing laundry. In the evening it was great to have one of the best hot showers ever.

Today was cool and cloudy so it was a good day to go for a walk to the old Moir Homestead, It was a nice walk out there some areas of soft sand but in these areas we had fun tracking the different types of animals and birds that cross the track, the walk to get there is approximately 2.5kms. There are quite a few ruins there, but you have to be careful around them as the bees have made hives in them, the national parks have laid old conveyor belt down as pathways so it makes it easier walking around rather through grass watching out for snakes. There is an amazingly large beautiful Morton Bay fig there as well as another fruit tree which I wasn't sure of, I thought it may have been an old chestnut. There are a couple of old wells and a tank as well as the buildings. At the end of one track is the grave of John Moir who was a farmer grazier, who with his brother(We believe) came out from Scotland and started the station running sheep, they also grew grain as feed for the sheep. It a...

After leaving Masons Bay we stopped off at Starvation Bay to see what the camp sites were  like there, they were ok but as a beach I preferred Masons Bay.  We continued on heading for Fanny Cove, we weren't really sure which 4wd road we should take so it was a blessing when we got to the crossroads there was some local people there letting their tyres down so they told us which one to take, we later found out the othe4 track was closed. It was definitely a let your tyres down 4wd track but we took it easy traveling at between 20-26 km p/h, as we went along we met the ranger coming out who stopped us to check our national park pass, as we talked to him he told us not to go to the Shoal Cape camp area as there was too many trees and not suitable for our truck or caravans. We drove towards Fanny Cove through kilometres of banksia in bloom, we also saw a huge kangaroo. When we arrived we were so surprised by the beauty of the area, the coast is rugged with a large area...

Every day we woke to the sounds of birds and waves, after the morning coffee go for a long walk on the beach, the water has become a lot clearer and as we stroll the beach we se lots of rays in the edges, the children are also down splashing and swimming, makes me wish I was a kid again, I thought about going in but decided I had better let my stitches heal properly, the water is pleasantly warm. We tried fishing Merv caught 2 very small flathead and we caught a couple of herring, we saw some people out on a 2 man kayak fishing near the inner reefs so we asked bow they went, they only caught one parrot fish so we decided we wouldn't bother putting the rubber boat in we would just try off the beach again as there are plenty of deep holes and the beach  looks perfect for flathead or whiting. We went along the beach with our bigger gear on Thursday afternoon the weather was calm and warm, it didn't take long after casting and Merv had hooked up a ray, when we got it in it was a d...
