We left Streaky Bay to continue our travel south. We stopped ar Elliston and had intended on staying we walked out the long jetty, around the beach and around the spectacular cliffs. They have a very nice grassed bbq area so we had lunch there, it was still quite early so we decided to move on. We arrived at Tumby bay around 4.30 and booked into the SACWA caravan park, it is only a small site with powered and unpowered sites, we paid $20 for an unpowered site but we had our own toilet and bathroom, water and a free washing machine, this park is not any good for big vans. The park is directly across from the beach and just along from the jetty. After setting up we went for a walk to the jetty, people were fishing catching small skippy, mackerel and herring, there was plenty of evidence of squid being caught from the jetty. We walked around admiring some of the lovely buildings. Next morning we were up and on the jetty before breakfast hoping to catch some...

Time to move on from Shelly Beach, we are going down the Eyre Peninsula stopping at places that look interesting. Our first stop was Smokey Bay, we had stayed there nearly 20 years ago and was astounded by the change. The caravan park has all been upgraded, there are lovely new houses along the foreshore, there's a new boat ramp but what struck us was the upgraded jetty, along towards the end there are bench seats with shelters built over them, 6 of them spaced out and in sets of 2 facing in opposite directions, these are built for the comfort of anyone fishing from the jetty. There is also a swim area that is completely fenced in steel wire so people can swim safely without the worry of sharks. There were people fishing for sqid using a float to keep the lure from the bottom. We saw sqid caught and the jetty was covered in squid ink but we didn't give it a try, we had a walk around then decided to move on further down the coast. We left Smok...

Another windy cloudy day( forecast) so Merv thought it was a good chance to make another loaf of bread and a apricot and raisin loaf. He cooked these in the oven in the kitchen area. Afterwards we went for a walk along the beach then up along the road back, lots of cars wizzing past. I picked up some nice shells. When we got back we had a game of air hockey sat in the games area for free wi-fi and got our blog up to date. When we got back to our camp site there was a group of young school girls across in the open bbq area singing Christmas songs, we were the third place they had been to today one of the other places was the old peoples home. While I sat watched and listened the true Christmas grinche came along, someone I could only describe as a mean sad old bitch of a woman. She came and stood near the teacher and myself and looked at us and quite loudly said " you don't book into a caravan park to have to put up with this noise, it was 4.30 in the afternoon. The kids were s...

This morning was a bit windy, it came up during the night it was forecast, it was quite cloudy buut the sun was trying to get through. I took my time done washing then we went for a walk along the beach towards Ceduna. There were mangroves at the far end and plenty more birds, also a dead seal washed up, phew. We walked up along a road at the back of the beach and noticed where people had been dumping loads and loads of oyster shells on the side of the road, there was also a large number of scallop shells. There was some very pretty flowers growing in places that you wouldn't expect to see them. The cloud cleared in the afternoon but the wind was too cold to go for another swim.
