When we left the next day we had planned on driving up through the channel and stay in Snug. We stopped ar Huonville for lunch on the river bank. The drive through to Snug was very pretty, we stayed in the Snug caravan park which was quite a nice one, the only down side was the fishy smell coming from the processing plant, Merv went for a swim I thought it was just too smelly. There was several nice walks we did before leaving After returning to the Neck we spent time with Paul getting wood and metal detecting, stayed with Anne for a couple of days on 2 seperate occasions, stayed at Paul's for Jackies birthday helped Colin cart wood. We went for a walk from Tasmans Arch to Waterfall Bay, there has been a very good trail made and new toilets at the Arch, there are great lookout points along the way to enjoy the coastal scenery. After the walk it was scallop pie and chips at the blowhole, chips were nice pie was 3rd grade, t...

Image
Today we are voing to go down the Huon area and stay at Cockle Creek,  we were inside having a cuppa with Tanya and Colin before we left when Tanya noticed 2 deer on the lawn feeding, a stag and a spike, we watched for awhile then Tanya managed to sneak out and get a photo before they spooked and ran, apparently they have been coming back each day, on one occasion there was a doe with them and the spent 45minutes feeding and resting We made our way to Hobart stopping at Sorell for groceries and water, this trip is the first time across the Tasman bridge with the truck, me giving directions, Merv being a bit jumpy about my directions lol. Once we got onto the Southern Outlet belief came into driver about the navigator. The country side is so beautiful I had forgotten how lovely it was, when we arrived at Huonville we stopped near the river for lunch, great picnic area with lawns, tables, bbqs and public toilets, right beside a very picturesque river. The trip from there ...

The weather has been pretty good so one day we joined Paul and Jackie metal detecting at Marion Bay, we found a few 5 cent pieces nothing exciting,  Paul found a ring. Next day we took the detector down along the penguin beach Merv found $2. Paul wanted a hand with a tree he was cutting down the following day at Marion Bay, we met him there approximately 11 o'clock he had already cut the tree down and it had fallen into the blackberry so we had to tow it out and up the paddock, the truck didn't even notice it. When all that was done we went detecting again, Merv found a 50 cent and a 10 cent along with some 5s, I only found 5 cent pieces. After we left the paddock we decided to have a look at the beach and lagoon, there are toilets and a car park sinceI was las there. When we got onto the beach Merv wanted to walk to the other end of the beach to the narrows where the boats go out, it was a big walk after detecting all day,  Was glad of a glass of bubbles and dinner. ...

26th January - 1st Febuary 2022 Eaglehawk Hawk Neck

Image
On the way back down to the Neck we stopped in at Pauls and Esther cooked a delicious lunch of lamb chops and vegetables. The following days we went to Hobart with Colin and Tanya I had to get a new phone as mine had died and I had to put my hearing aids in as they stopped working. We went metal detecting with Paul and Jackie.  There was a pirate festival on at the Neck along with markets, there was a play held in the marque of how pirates bay got its name, apparently 6 convicts escaped from Hobart made their way to the Neck and pirated a schooner that was there to make their escape, as we  walked on the beach to the blowhole  we saw a tall ship anchored up that had been brought in for the celebrations. When we got to the jetty we watched the boats bring in their mako sharks which they had caught in the competition. We looked after Jessie and the chooks for a couple of days while Tanya and Colin visited their grandchildren.

25th - 26th January 2022 New Norfolk

We took our time going down the highway and arrived at Anne's place around 11.30, we intend staying a couple of nights as she hasn't been so well being in a lot of pain so I plan to help her out as much as possible. Anne seemed to cheer up a lot when we arrived, I  believe that a lot of her problem is loneliness sice Len died. I pruned roses, Merv washed the car, we did what we could but mostly we were company for her.

24th January 2022 Brady's Lake

Image
On the roed again, as we headed South we passed through Derwent Bridge and just had to stop at The Wall, this would have to be one of the most amaizing pieces of artistic work anyone could imagine, it is all done by one artist who has sculptured panels of huon pine each approximately 4 metres high, these panels are joined and made one very long wall that is double sided, the sculptures tell a story along with native animals the whole thing is mind blowing, inside the entrance there are numerous sculptures of coats, hats, gloves everyday things and these sculptures look real. There are draws with the artists drawings these in themselve are wonderful to look at. Photos weren't permitted as there was books for sale showing the artists work. There was other sculptures outside made of metal which were also impressive. when we left there we travelled down the highway till we came to Brady's Lake. We found another great grassy spot for camping right on the edge of the lake...

23rd January 2022 Lake Burbury

Image
Leaving our camp today we decided to stop in Strahan for another pastie and coffee after stopping at the fishermans wharf first. When we had finished our snack we went for a drive and came across the people's park with a trail that led to holgarth falls. It was an easy walk along the creek where we kept looking for platypus, without any luck, but the bush was lush and peaceful. We then headed towards Queenstown the road windier but not too bad then the nerve racking part of up Gormanston Hill, that one is something else so many tight bends up a very steep bald hill I am glad we were going up not coming down. We continued on and decided to camp for the night at Lake Burbury, another nice camp spot, clean with good toilets. As the afternoon set in the weather got extremely hot so we went down to the boat ramp, which was a very long cement ramp, we went for a swim, the water was so warm it was the best way to finish the day.
